Abishag the Shunammite (אֲבִישַׁג, avishag). A beautiful woman from Shunem who became David’s nurse in the last days of his life. After David’s death, Adonijah wanted to marry Abishag. He persuaded Bathsheba to advocate for him before the king. Solomon suspected this request to be an aspiration for the throne, and put Adonijah to death (1 Kgs 2:17–25).
